HPAY: take payments in a shop

This guide shows you how to take QUAI payments at a counter with the HPAY point of sale. You type a price in dollars, the customer scans a QR code and pays from their own wallet, and the screen turns green when the payment is confirmed on the chain.

Who it's for: a shop, stall or event that wants to be paid in QUAI. The point of sale is Beta: it is tested by our own test suites and has not been independently audited. Start with small sales.

What you'll need

  • Your Quai address (starts with 0x00) or your Hartii @name.
  • A phone or tablet with a browser. The screen stays awake while a sale is open, where the browser allows it.
  • Customers with a Pelagus or Blip wallet, QUAI for the price, and a little extra for the network fee.

Steps

  1. Open hartiibiome.com/hpay/pos.
  2. Under Where should payments go?, enter your address or @name and press Save and open the keypad. It is saved on this device only. Customers pay this address directly; Hartii never holds the money.
  3. Type the price in dollars on the keypad. Optionally open Add a note for the customer (up to 60 characters).
  4. Press Charge. The page works out the QUAI from at least two price sources and locks it for 15 minutes. A QR code and a countdown appear.
  5. The customer scans the code with their phone camera and pays from their own wallet. They pay the network fee.
  6. Wait for green. The screen shows Paid only when the payment is confirmed on the chain. Then press View receipt or Start a new sale.

If the sources are down or disagree, the page gives no price. Try again in a minute.

What the statuses mean

  • Waiting: the sale is open and no confirmed payment has arrived.
  • Paid: a payment of the exact amount reached your address inside the sale's time and has enough confirmations.
  • Needs a look: a payment arrived that does not match: the wrong amount, late, a duplicate, or one the node could not confirm. It is never counted. A wrong amount says what was asked, what arrived and how much it is short or over. You decide what to do, and any refund is yours to make; HPAY never moves money back.
  • Expired: the 15 minutes ran out, and after a 3 minute wait Quaiscan and the Quai node both answered with no matching payment.
  • Not verified: Hartii cannot say whether it was paid, for example because a source stayed down for 30 minutes after the sale ended, or the sale was still waiting after a week. Check your address on Quaiscan.

Settings, log and CSV

  • Settings has Confirmations before a sale shows Paid: 1 to 12, default 12. Each sale keeps the number it was opened with. 12 is a placeholder until Quai finality has been measured, so a shop with bigger sales may want to keep it.
  • Sales on this device can be filtered (All, Paid, Waiting, Needs a look, Expired), searched and sorted (Newest first, Highest dollars first, Status). Download CSV gives you the log for your books.
  • Each sale has a receipt link. A receipt is rebuilt from the chain every time it is opened.

Limits and common mistakes

  • Sales live on this device only. Hartii keeps no copy. Download the CSV. Reset this device clears the address and every sale.
  • One tab per device. Do not open the point of sale in a second tab; the page freezes Charge if it sees another tab change the data.
  • The dollar price is your quote. The chain only records QUAI, so a receipt shows the price as "not checked".
  • A customer paid but you see Waiting. Wait a moment. Quaiscan can list a payment late, which is why a sale waits 3 minutes after it ends before saying Expired. If it still is not there, look at your address on Quaiscan.
  • A tag is not reused for 30 minutes after a sale ends, so a late payment for an old sale cannot pay a new one.
  • Wrong network. The customer must be on Quai Mainnet (chain 9).
